As the largest inner-city green space, the Stadtgarten in Krefeld was redesigned in 2015 after long planning and coordination with various committees and citizens' initiatives. As a park with a historical background, many of its basic features and potentials have disappeared over the decades. The task for Bimberg landscape architects was to rediscover these, revive them and carefully transform them according to the requirements of today.
In the context of the federal-state funding programme "Stadtumbau West" (Urban Redevelopment West), the Stadtgarten was initially defined as a measure, deficits and potential were discussed by Bimberg landscape architects in an analysis procedure and finally a design concept was developed on the basis of a two-stage public planning workshop.

Target formulation:
Development of a contemporary park image with clear design references to the past of the Stadtgarten and concise areas with different atmospheres / characteristics
- Design reference to the formal basic framework of the Stadtgarten
- Strengthening of the main axes and revitalization of the square areas with differentiation of the internal design in functions and materials
- Enhancement of the edges in the south and north and creation of inviting,
- Calming of the actual city garden through reduction and concentration on the characteristic park elements of lawn/meadow and trees
- Relocation of the children's playground to the west.
