Rhine promenade Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer, Koblenz A bond for the future

Waterfront promenades are attractive places for a wide variety of uses. In Koblenz, for example, there was originally a bourgeois promenade in front of the castle. Then the Rhine embankment was largely a traffic and transshipment point, and in recent decades tourism has shaped life on the river. We have made the evidence of all these times visible and connected them in a homogeneous one.

The promenade is divided into three linear sections. In the upper part, facing the city, are the traffic routes, in the middle the newly designed rows of trees with rest areas and the functional buildings of the piers. The lower section along the river is reserved for pedestrians as a promenade. The numerous small architectural structures have been given a uniform appearance.
The "Rhine steps" are a striking part of the Rhine promenade. In terms of urban space, this is the end point of the new axis starting from the city centre via the castle to the Rhine, as well as the antipole to the Deutsches Eck. The direct access to the river is an attraction for citizens and tourists. Bringing these two groups together was also the intention at the Deutsche Eck. By relocating the parking spaces and creating a city garden around the numerous historic buildings, an old quarter was "rediscovered" for the city's citizens and guests.
