Embedded in a wonderful nature with wide views into the landscape, the Erlebnistreff Burg Oberhohenberg was created as a combination of historical knowledge transfer, adventure hiking, playground and refreshment facilities.

The project is divided into three parts:

1. Making the castle visible
Two wall sides of the octagonal tower of the former Oberhohenberg Castle were exposed under archaeological
supervision, newly grouted and protected from weathering by a stone cover. To show the dimensions of the tower, its corners were marked with vertically rising metal beams
which trace the shape of the tower. Between the girders a walkable metal platform was installed, information boards inform the visitor about the history of the castle. A 32 m long suspension bridge was stretched over one of the two moats leading to the former castle. This makes it easier to see the former function of the terrain and the wobbly suspension bridge is a special experience for young and old.
A circular hiking trail (Burgweg Oberhohenberg, 1.9 km) was created, starting from the hiking car park
at the refuge over the five stations formerly belonging to the castle complex (Maierhof
- town of Hohenberg - castle complex and moat - Nikolauskapelle - Schafhaus).

2. redesign / upgrade experience area at the refuge
The existing playground on the meadow above the refuge had to be gradually dismantled in recent years for safety reasons. In order to bring children closer to the importance of Hohenberg Castle, a play castle was built here with reference to the historic castle complex. The play structure takes up the octagonal shape in reference to the exposed tower. The Hohenberg coat of arms adorns the roof of the play tower, and a suspension bridge forms the entrance to the play castle. Large stone blocks symbolise the mighty shield wall of the historic castle complex. A large seating stone provides a small stage for a "knight's maiden" who tells the children about the knights of Hohenberg Castle. The children can sit and listen on the surrounding seating blocks arranged in a circle. Further attractions of the play castle are a dungeon, a speaking tube, a telescope as well as various climbing possibilities. Only particularly hard and durable robinia wood was used. Furthermore, an additional barbecue area and various benches and tables were built in the area.

3. Extension shelter
The existing for many years at the hiking parking Oberhohenberg shelter of the Albverein Schörzingen received in the course of construction an extension with a toilet facility and a canopy. With the new extension, an open roof is now available, which can be used at any time by hikers as a shelter against rain. The orientation of the new extension to the southwest with the terrace in front now offers the possibility to sit in the sun and overlook the play area.
