Stadtgarten Güstrow Am Berge © 2015 Seemann
The urban reorganization of the area at the former city wall Am Berge clarifies the historical city layout, which had been lost at this point, and at the same time creates new open spaces at the edge of the old town.
A 1m high clinker brick wall marks the course of the former city wall. Above the wall, a promenade is created as a pedestrian link to the Glevin Wall.
The open space between the city wall and the street Am Berge will be designed as a "city garden", whose structure is based on the original parcelling.
Tree arcades on the street side are at the same time a transparent border and gateway situation; in a strip-shaped arrangement, planting areas and pathways alternate, with more intimate recreational areas in between.
Even transitions, good lighting and senior-friendly benches with armrests on the sides ensure the barrier-free usability of the open space offer
For the planting, a low-maintenance perennial and grass mixture was used. This robust perennial mixture has been specially developed for public green spaces and blooms from spring to autumn without any watering.
