For the three historic cemeteries of the Jewish Community of Berlin - Cemetery Große Hamburger Straße, Cemetery Schönhauser Allee and Cemetery Weißensee - a visitor guidance system was developed that conveys the importance of the cemeteries as sources for Jewish history and the contribution of Jewish citizens to the common good of the city of Berlin in past centuries. It provides insights into the background of Jewish burial culture and promotes a general understanding of monument preservation aspects and the concern to protect and preserve the historic Jewish cemeteries. The guidance system refers in detail to the value of grave inscriptions as stone documents and conveys through the selection of special gravesites an in-depth examination of individual or family fates and refers to the 21 honorary gravesites of the state of Berlin.
The guidance system provides print media in the form of cemetery guides, leaflets and information boards, so that visitors can go on a guided tour or specifically to individual sites.
The implementation of the guidance system as an Internet portal www.juedische-friedhoefe-berlin.de and as a mobile WebApp is a sub-project of the overall project.

The WebApp represents a contemporary addition to the information offered and improves the provision of information about the Jewish cemeteries in Berlin and their furnishing elements, especially the gravestones. The website serves on the desktop computer for information and planning of a visit to the cemeteries and as a mobile WebApp for route planning and information on the cemeteries. Simple search and filter functions for specific elements of equipment, such as gravestone designs by well-known architects or honorary graves, allow individual exploration of the gravestones on site. Over GPS the own location on an interactive map is indicated and referred to available information in the proximity of the own location.
A broad-effective availability of the information is given by the adherence to current technical standards. These allow a platform-independent publishing of the information independent of the hardware or the operating systems of the smartphones. The mobile WebApp www.juedische-friedhoefe-berlin.mobi can be started up directly via the smartphone browser without prior installation.
