The historical spatial composition of palace, pleasure garden and old market is taken up in the centre of Potsdam, reinterpreted and interwoven with the city again. The Lustgarten will become a city garden with opportunities for sport and play.

The lost center of Potsdam formed the core of the historic city and garden landscape, from which the complex system of spatial sequences and axis references of the city with its drama and beauty developed.
The original system of meaning and space consisting of the palace, the city centre with the pleasure garden and the "Old Market" no longer exists. The historical spatial composition is nevertheless traced here, reinterpreted and interwoven with the city again. It fits into the baroque axis system and continues the historical spatial sequences. The festival square is integrated into the proportions of the parade ground. It remains open as a variable field for uses in temporal and spatial overlapping by culture, sports or funfairs. The structure of the hotel becomes the spatial joint and functional backbone of the new Havel terrace. The Lustgarten is conceived as a city garden. Here too, in contrast to Potsdam's historic gardens, sport and play are expressly permitted. Lenné's grove of trees is added to complete the garden and formulates the transition to the garden, which is oriented towards the Havel to the east. (Competition, work phases: 2 3)
