A contemporary community park has been created on the contaminated site of the former Meißen coal storage yard, which combines temporary flooding in the flood area of the Triebisch, flood protection, the landscape of the stream floodplain and the management objectives of the adjacent Triebischtäler FFH area with the usage requirements of the citizens, the idea of a dog playground, the connection of the Triebischtal landscape area with the old town and a robust maintenance concept.
A wide park boulevard made of light-colored asphalt, combined with individually designed benches, an artistic connection to the nearby porcelain manufactory, elegant light columns with innovative technology and safe illumination, a near-natural riverside path along the Triebisch and several cross-connections form the basic framework for the creation of four park spaces of different characters,
- the gravel banks with undulating relief,
- the meadow cabinet with grove and viewing hill,
- the forest cabinet and
- the dog play area.
After the demolition of the paved areas, a mosaic of biotopes will develop there over the next few years, from flower
gravel lawns on the base layers of former paved areas, to fresh and wet meadows, to the bank fringe on the Triebisch and a butterfly and wild bee fringe on a newly built embankment on the railroad line.
The dog play area is separated from the rest of the park by a depression in the ground, connected to a half-height shrub planting and wire baskets filled with relics of the former use and offers dogs and children alike exercise incentives via lying logs, boulders and sand hollows. The local dog sports club is planning events on species-appropriate dog ownership and training here.
In the future, as with the southern edge of the park, shallow and protected access points to the Triebisch, which is currently very shallow, are to be created in coordination with the LTV.
A graduated intensity of use and thus protection of the valuable biotope areas is to be achieved through the creation of regularly mowed pathways to picnic and recreation areas with spacious landscape loungers within the two-grazed meadow areas. This concept is explained on the entertaining and attractively designed information boards at both entrances.
