A vibrant hub of community life by reorganising the traditional site, reducing traffic, creating areas each with their own characteristics for different uses, building a new café.
Loosely framed by a heterogeneous development, the square was bordered by roadways and covered with large trees in the middle before the reconstruction. Based on an expert opinion, some of the trees had to be removed because they were no longer stable.
This 'green' character of the castle square should be preserved and the square at the same time designed to the urban center.
Based on the reorganization and reduction of vehicular traffic as well as parking spaces on and around the square, it is now divided into two areas, each with its own characteristics:
In the eastern part, an area with solid flooring and a new café; in the western part, a grove of trees on a carpet of grass, derived from the existing situation. The café is a moderate structure in ground plan and height, which is intended to additionally enliven the square with its terrace for outdoor catering. A smaller, second terrace with water fountains next to it invites to play. The usable space of the square is also redefined and enlarged by a ramp structure adapted to the topography. A wall now separates the driveway and the square space and at the same time connects them via steps. New high trunks have been planted in the western part of the square to replace the felled trees, and the lawn under the trees has been redefined with a polygonal edge of sandstone slabs.
