Appreciation in the special award for living environmentGerman Landscape Architecture Award 2011

Jury verdict: The newly created inner area is understood by the adjacent building communities as a garden courtyard that can be used in a variety of ways. A carefully structured space is created on a narrowly limited area, which clearly sorts the necessary functions.

All other areas of use are positioned in a well thought-out manner around the centrally located lawn. An intensively usable plaza area is delimited by clearly guided seating walls, and a pleasantly proportioned communication zone is created with the adjacent play area. The few furniture elements are well placed and carefully detailed, the different surfaces functionally chosen.

With intensively, but not overloaded planted zones at the edges of the building, the private area of the ground floor zones is separated in different ways from the common space. The choice of plants itself is also very appropriate and makes the courtyard appear very airy and bright despite the high proportion of greenery.
