The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials in Halle is concerned with the
development, reliability and application behaviour of innovative materials.
This resulted in the objective of clarifying the philosophy of the institute through clear
objective structures, functionality, support of communication and the
representation of the openness to think new things, also in the design of the outdoor facilities
. The generously proportioned access area merges with the foyer through
the glass façade. The revolving gates
made of steel profiles and steel cables developed for this building provide effective protection for the sensitive
research projects and yet maintain the transparency that allows a view into
the green island of the courtyard with its "thinking cells". The climbing aids
of the Technica building with their filigree
stainless steel construction also symbolize forms and structural diversity as they are
researched inside. The extensive green roof with its positive ecological effects
underlines the environmental awareness of this research facility.
