Like the building itself, the planning and construction of the 10,000 m² tree-covered courtyard is based on the high ecological standards of LEED® certification.
Reflective light surfaces and water areas, together with the selected vegetation, have a positive effect not only on the climate of the garden, but also on the climate of the building. Exclusively native plants adapted to regional conditions, rainwater management and glare-free economical lighting support the sustainable overall concept.
On the two levels of the garden, tradition and modernity combine, ornamental hedges structure sun and shade areas, meeting points and quiet zones, intensively designed and more extensive areas with rather sparse vegetation typical of the region.
Pavings made of large-format slabs manufactured on site take up the direction of the façade structure and visually connect the open space with the building.
A 25 m wide water cascade uses the terrain step to the cafeteria and piazza and generates pleasant coolness here in the hot Madrid summer.
