The client, the city of Mittweida, plans the redesign of the central square at the technical center of the University of Science and Technology Mittweida, as a representative link between the city center, with market and Rochlitzer Street, and the park at the 'Swan Pond', which is directly adjacent to the campus. The design of the square should reflect the diversity and cosmopolitanism of the university town of Mittweida, as well as the regional characteristics.
In a southerly direction, the 'city ring' separates the Technikumplatz from the city centre. Here, by changing the road surface, a traffic calming can be achieved and, as it were, a connection to Rochlitzer Straße can be achieved. This situation should be considered in the context of an ideas section of the competition.
The approximately triangular square structure is bordered in the north by the main building of the university, south-west by a medieval row house development and east by row edge development from the Gründerzeit houses. Along the buildings there are service roads, which are also to be renewed within the scope of this measure. As far as possible, autochthonous materials typical of the area are to be used.
