Mimicry
The principle of mimicry is based in the animal kingdom on the deception of a signal receiver by imitating an external appearance.
So the conspicuous warning costume of the wasp serves as an expression of toxicity/unpalatability, whereby predators are deterred. This warning signal is "imitated" by the harmless wasp hoverfly, the protective properties are feigned.
The simple concrete block paving of the square pavement ("autumn leaves") in interaction with the extravagant natural stone facade - through its apparent similarity - conveys the impression of a higher value than would be attributed to the paving in another context.
