A new building arrangement creates a semi-public space in front of the Mozarteum University and makes it accessible from Mirabellplatz. A reduced design of the open spaces, as a contrast to the neighbouring Mirabell Gardens, meets the various functional demands of a university: representative access, lounges, space for retreat.
The opening of the planned Mozarteum to Mirabellplatz creates new sequences of squares and pathways. The square in front of the hall leads the Mirabellplatz into the building ensemble and is the representative entrance of the new Mozarteum. A semi-public space is created here as a meeting point and place of communication.
The 'patio', the lower-lying green courtyard, is used to connect the public pathway to the level of the Mirabell Gardens by means of a ramp.
The 'patio', designed with reduced elements - rock pears, water basins and benches - becomes a place for relaxation and contemplation. As an intimate space, it also offers the opportunity for small performances or concerts.
The roof terraces on the second and third floors can be used for lounging from the institute rooms. The different floors offer attractive views of the Mirabell Gardens and the Mönchsberg.
