The entire floodplain forest area has become a quiet, contemplative nature park. The disappeared oxbow lakes have been uncovered, flooded and revived into near-natural flowing waters. Canoes and pedal boats invite you to enjoy nature in a humid and cheerful way. Clearance axes are the formal framework of the floodplain and its new attraction at the garden show. They establish visual references and connections between city, fair and surrounding Danube landscape.
The sensitive Bestandslichtungen are transformed economic axes of the Auwaldes. Formed as meadow areas, they give out and insight and serve the development between the horticultural show and the Danube floodplain. The colourful garden splendour takes place on an existing clearing. The bright, open space contrasts with the density of the surrounding nature reserve. Coming from Tulln, visitors are welcomed at the forecourt of the Landesgartenschau by the entrance building and the boat landing stage.
The entrance building is a visitor centre and restaurant and is located directly on a large pond. The restaurant terrace on the garden side of the building invites you to take a culinary break. Continue on to the central fairground with the forest stage, which form the prelude to the garden show. The clearing gardens on the large, central forest clearing are the heart of the garden show. The clearing axes become a path system here and form the framework and basic structure for a flexible range of gardens of different sizes.
A circular path made of glowing orange tartan flooring runs meandering through the gardens and guides visitors to all attractions. Transparent wood slat walls enclose the garden spaces and open them invitingly to the surrounding paths. The tree-lined garden squares offer short breathers in the variety of the model gardens and rhythmise the circular route. In the forest lies the "Wave Play", an adventurous children's play area with tartan fish, climbing ship, buildable river course and tree swings.
A treetop path opens up the magnificent panorama of the surrounding Danube landscape. The former ball pit at the end of the garden course is exposed as a striking existing element and modeled pyramidal-sculptural. Accessible via stairs and ramps, it offers a view back over the garden show grounds.
