Campus University of Tübingen ZMBP Institute and Campus Square

The inner campus area is designed as a large plaza space that spatially and functionally links the new adjacent buildings with the existing structures.

The difference in height to the central lecture hall building is overcome with a wide open staircase. A green centre characterises the central inner area of the campus square and, together with generous seating steps, creates attractive recreational areas. The lawns, enclosed by walls, run diagonally according to the future building and are intersected with paths that connect the entrance areas of the university buildings without barriers. The plateau of the campus is bordered with walls, which emphasize and support the slope edges to the surrounding terrain. In the southern and eastern areas, this creates landscape balconies with views of the city of Tübingen and the Swabian Alb. The green centre itself is free of trees, the adjoining paved squares are covered with large trees in a free arrangement. The canteen area with the existing small terraces is rearranged and calmed down. The entrance area on Schnarrenbergstrasse is designed as a generous forecourt in conjunction with the new library building, with interventions in the dense tree population once again enabling visual relationships into the interior of the UniCampus.
