The Leopoldina is the oldest scientific and medical learned society in Germany. Based in Halle since 1878, the academy was given a prestigious headquarters with the renovation of the former Chernyshevsky House. The former property of the lodge "Zu den drei Degen", which was founded in Halle in 1743, marks the north-east corner of the Moritzburg's former defensive fortifications. A park on the bastion was first mentioned in the middle of the 17th century. The essential and still existing basic structures of the open space were further developed on the basis of a monument preservation objective, taking into account today's requirements. These include, in particular, the access situation, path development and internal and external visual relationships. Particular planning priorities were the careful further development of the existing trees and shrubs, the design accentuation of the main entrance area with driveway and representative decorative planting as well as the renovation of the historic retaining walls.
