In Kiel, the waterfront square at the Germaniahafen was newly built. This square is located in the immediate vicinity of the Norway Terminal on the east side of the Kiel Fjord and, together with the three-span bascule bridge over the Hörn, forms an important connection between Kiel's city centre with the main railway station on the west side of the Fjord and the Kiel-Gaarden district on the east side.
The square overcomes a height difference of approx. 6 metres and connects the promenade with the Gaardener Ring and the adjoining pedestrian bridge over the Ostring, a busy main road in Kiel. A generously designed staircase with two flights of steps and an integrated slightly inclined ramp enable pedestrians to overcome this height difference. On the "intermediate deck", seating and the outdoor café of the freenet headquarters invite visitors to linger.
