The Olympic Centre Kiel-Schilksee / Baltic Sea was the venue for the Olympic sailing competitions in 1972. Since then it has been a Mecca for sailors from all over the world, who meet here every year for the world's largest sailing competitions during Kiel Week. As the demands of sailors and sight-seers have steadily evolved in recent years, the harbour apron and promenade have been upgraded to a tourist experience area.
BHF's new design makes the promenade along the water's edge clearly legible and invites visitors to stroll along. In the rear area, an event mile has been planned, to which tents will be docked on both sides for major events. Under the title "Kiel Sailing City", references to the 1972 Olympic Sailing Games will be re-established. On boards visitors will get information about the Olympic boat classes, the Olympic winners of 1972 as well as information about the winners of the regattas of all Kiel Weeks. A bundle of design measures such as new paving, sunbathing decks, benches, utilities as well as a new lighting concept give this place an update into the 21st century.
