On the edge of the Pyramidenpark in Cologne-Deutz, a 7-storey residential building with 37 apartments, mainly intended for senior citizens, was built as an addition to an existing housing estate. Open spaces were only available to a very limited extent. The planning goal was to interlock the sequence of open spaces of the public (Pyramidenpark), semi-public (building entrance areas) and private areas (gardens of the ground floor apartments) with each other. In addition to the private gardens of the ground floor residents, the main focus was on the building entrance areas located on the underground car park. The three entrances are each assigned small, higher places, which can now be occupied with small-crowned robinias, despite their location in the underground car park. They are quickly taken possession of for resting and lingering or for exchanging news. Materials are used as design elements which can also be found in the directly adjacent entrance area of the Pyramidenpark: Gabions filled with Ruhr sandstone and trimmed hornbeam hedges serve as boundaries. The paths have a surface of high-quality, light-coloured artificial stone slabs, which contrast with basalt paving. The leading species of the planting are roses, lavender and long flowering perennials.
