IGS 2013 Hamburg - The Australian Garden World of Continents: Garden down under - the changing world of plants

Far away from the rest of the world, a unique and independent flora and fauna developed here. For thousands of years, the indigenous people practiced a form of slash-and-burn agriculture, aware of the natural cycles. However, with the introduction of European agricultural techniques and crops around 200 years ago, land use changed dramatically.



The garden presents itself as a journey through six different Australian landscapes. They are clearly separated by high walls, whose red coloring represents the continent. The path leads through cultivated land, bushland, mountains, rainforest and coastal regions to the desert. There the path widens and oversized emu eggs invite you to linger.



A comprehensive impression of the contrasting diversity of an entire continent remains in the memory, as does a sense of the challenge of ensuring that the special features of the landscape zones are not endangered by external influences.
