The unattractive and outdated appearance of the market square area and the pedestrian passage in Glinde, which had been made confusing by fixtures and leaps in height, has been transformed into clearly structured public spaces with clear visual and pathway relationships. The market place and the pedestrian passage can again be positively experienced as coherent public spaces due to the spatially concise expression and a modern design language. A fountain, an avenue of plane trees and new amenity qualities in the direct apron of the shops and stores contribute to this positive development.
In the area where the market stalls are set up, the market square will be given a carpet-like covering of velvety concrete block. This central area will be structured by a barcode-like pattern to give the area a distinctive face even outside market hours. An avenue of plane trees connects the market place with the adjacent parking lot. The passage is constructed from a sloping staircase and a central ramp system, which carefully responds to the existing topography and still ensures accessibility in all areas.
The new lighting concept, high-quality furnishings and a clear regulation for the individual use of the public space with regard to advertising, exhibitions and product displays complement the overall concept as important design principles.
