A wild primeval world of tree trunks, rocks and climbing ropes in the transition to the shallow lake shore is reminiscent of the former Jurassic Sea, the place where the oil shale was formed. Two 8 m high concrete towers symbolize the production, the transformation of the raw materials
oil shale and limestone into cement. In an extensive concrete landscape with playable water troughs in the form of a tidal fountain, the newly created product concrete is shown.
The playground was designed and built by the company Kukuk, Stuttgart. www.zumkukuk.de

The 5,500 m² lake forms the centre of the complex around which all attractions are grouped. A large square area at the lake with restaurant invites you to linger.
The water level can be kept constant throughout the year thanks to a sophisticated water technology. The entire surface water is collected and fed to a 600 m³ large Rigole. This serves as a water reservoir and the lake is replenished from here. In 3 filter basins, the water is cleaned and fed back into the lake via a spring.
The water technology was planned by Ateilier Dreiseitl in Überlingen.

The exhibition concept playfully spans the geological, cultural landscape contexts of the site, the active cement production and the
people in the region. Concept Atelier Dreiseitl, Überlingen.

The amphitheatre and open air area form a curved shape of an ammonite lying in the landscape. The 18 m high hill limits the area and offers a magnificent overview of the festival area.
The amphitheater offers space for about 400 people, the open air area even for up to 5,000 people.

The "tapping place" offers the possibility for young and old to find 180 million year old ammonites and many other fossils in the oil shale. The finds can be cleaned at a fountain. A preparator who is present on site at certain times provides information about the finds and shows how the pieces can be further prepared.

The quarry habitat, a secondary biotope created by man, is a special kind of natural experience. Numerous partial habitats such as spoil heaps, rock faces and embankments, soil windrows, water-filled hollows raw soil vegetation and vegetation on weathering cones in front of the quarry walls offer different habitats with different dynamic processes, whose observation is particularly interesting.
The conflict between reclamation (restoration of former land use) and renaturation (the occupation of the land by nature depending on the intensity of human intervention) can be vividly understood on this site.
All stages of succession can be found here. By building an observation station in the area of the slate quarry wall, animals and rare bird species can be observed. Through the close juxtaposition of diverse habitats and the measures for integration into the surrounding landscape, the project should contribute significantly to the preservation of biodiversity and the biotope network in the region.
