University of Applied Sciences Merseburg Campus master plan | Refurbishment and renovation of the main building

The main building, which is highly frequented by teaching staff, students and guests, represents the core of the university and also contains the refectory as a central meeting point in the western basement. The outdoor facilities meet these requirements with generous areas as access and recreation areas. The inner courtyard design reacts to the linear appearance of the buildings in terms of colour and form. The cafeteria terrace offers free space for recreation and events and opens up to the campus area through large steps. Tree islands arranged in a ribbon-like manner run through the central open spaces as a 'condensed landscape'; to the south, the complex opens up to the green corridor of the Geiselaue with blocks of trees and linear plantings.
The outdoor facilities around auditorium building 130 are divided into the two access levels of the ground floor and basement. A new handicapped ramp and a ribbon of grass in front of the glass façade complement the existing plaza design at the upper entrance area. The basement is accessible via a small inner courtyard, in which a surrounding paved area fronts the facades and encloses a lawn with a solitary tree and spring geophytes.
