Creation of a new landscape park on the site of the former sugar factory in Regensburg.
A new district is being built on the site of the former Regensburg sugar factory. Various developers are creating a mixed development area with different types of housing, kindergartens, offices and retirement homes, based on a development concept by Munich-based architects Auer und Weber.
The neighborhood park stretches between the residential buildings and the adjacent railroad area. The main feature of the green corridor are linear chains of hills with clear edges, whose cubature visually reduces the eleven-metre-high noise barrier and at the same time provide views from the Walhalla over the harbour to Regensburg's old town. A footpath and cycle path meanders through the park, past flower meadows, gabion walls and columnar trees, in line with the terrain modeling.
The central children's play area was developed in workshops with children from the surrounding schools. The play concept traces the process of sugar production from beet, starting with the beet washing plant, through delivery by truck, to the refinery tower.
