CAU Kiel, new building ZMB New construction of an interdisciplinary centre for molecular biosciences at the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel

The new Center for Molecular Biosciences combines previously spatially separated work areas in one building. The building's amorphous design language confidently departs from the orthogonal 1970s structures of the immediate surroundings.

The shape of the structure and the variously reflective material of its curved outer skin provide a lively external appearance that varies with the viewer's point of view.

The planned, gently modulated open space design creates an urban reference framework that integrates the Center for Molecular Biosciences into the surrounding research landscape of Kiel Christian Albrechts University and makes it a prominent part of it.

The design is intended to incorporate pathway relationships, strengthen the accompanying vegetation structures, and elaborate the building with its immediately surrounding open spaces as a "link". The existing topography of the slopes will be altered and soft contour lines will be used around the building.
