The city of Brunsbüttel has realized a maritime adventure playground at the marina promenade at the Kiel Canal
In terms of urban planning and theme, this area of Brunsbüttel is characterized by the canal and the lock system. The aim of the planning should therefore be to design a playground that deals with the technology and function of the lock and the ship harbour.

Location

When children are on the promenade at the Brunsbüttel lock, they immediately discover the sea signs and the high lighthouse with slide between the parking lot and the beer garden.

They quickly find the small entrance path to the playground, because their view already falls from the promenade on the water play area.

Planning idea / play value

The water play area is symbolized by sea signs on long poles. A long 3-section water basin with sluice gates and valves is the central element of this area. Here the children can act out the lock theme. The "North Sea-Baltic Sea Canal" is fed by a pump that fills the reservoir via a channel so that a large surge of water is ready to feed the lock.

At an angle of 45° to this runs the "Elbe", which is symbolised by an elongated water basin made of natural stone with a weir and an adjoining elongated sand play area. The water flows over a small water wheel into the basin and can be transported over a water lifting spiral also again upward into the storage basin.

In the "sand Elbe" swim a thick fish for riding, a cutter with sand crane, steering wheel and benches as well as a Wackelschiffchen, all play elements for smaller children. A seating area completes this area.

These play areas may have visual contact with the adjacent outdoor dining area. In general, rather a demarcation is provided by the 2 m wide planting strip running around the playground.

In the central main play area, the lighthouse rises into the air. Via interior ladders and play platforms 60, 150 and 240 cm high, the curved slide is safely accessible to all children. The climbing wall and climbing pole offer more of a challenge. The tower is connected to the ship's bow via balancing ropes and a rope bridge.

The ship's bow carries the swing nest at the front. However, it mainly offers various internal spaces and role-playing opportunities above and below deck such as the steering wheel, ship's telephone, benches, as well as motor challenges such as the climbing net, gap bridge, sloping deck, horizontal bar and balancing beam.

The northern alcove of the square forms the ideal small space for trying out the movement offers 50 . The "round walk" strengthens leg muscles and condition,
the "arm crank" strengthens arms, shoulder area and also the condition, the wobbling "balancing beam" trains the balance. All 3 devices are also suitable for joint exercise. A bench for resting completes this area. From here you have visual contact with the swing, slide and water play area.
