The starting point for the redesign of Helsingfors Square is the southern Finnish landscape around Helsinki. Characteristic are the islands off the city, which consist of weathered rock and are sparsely overgrown with trees. At the centre of the spatial staging are modelled (planting) islands consisting of rough greywacke gravel and individual erratic blocks.
The diverse path relationships and crossing possibilities are preserved by the precisely formed, amorphous planting islands. A rather patchy, but nevertheless striking planting of multi-stemmed birch trees and grasses is intended to create references to the landscape. The islands are embedded in a paving of concrete pavers with two formats of different lengths and strips of small stones, which create a wave pattern and - being perpendicular to the main directions of movement - have a decelerating effect.
