The Bollwerksturm marked the northwest corner of the town wall. In 1519, Götz von Berlichingen, Württemberg bailiff in Möckmühl, sat for one night as a prisoner of the Swabian League in the Bollwerksturm. Heilbronn's actual "Götz Tower" was given the name "Bulwark Tower" when the Swedes and the French expanded the immediate area around the tower into a strong bulwark during the Thirty Years' War.

The Bollwerk tower once marked the northwest corner of the Heilbronn city wall. Today, it is located near the center of Heilbronn's city. The square is flanked by two new buildings, the Riverside Domizil residential and commercial building and the Mercure Hotel, which separates the main northern road Mannheimer Straße from the square area.

On the western edge of the square are the municipal bath Soleo and a multi-storey car park. Thus, the square is enclosed from all sides and gets its own very individual character through the newly created urban situation.
In the future, the square will become an important distributor of bicycle and pedestrian flows due to its proximity to various educational institutions, the new Neckarbogen district and the Experimenta.

The square area made of basalt cobblestones stretches between the buildings and offers a wide range of different qualities of stay. The tower as the focal point of the square design is complemented by a seating wall made of sandstone and is strengthened in its spatial effect. The existing plane tree opposite the tower was preserved and integrated into the square. The quality of stay on the northern square area is strengthened by gastronomy. Various catering establishments offer seating in the outdoor area and thus contribute to the revitalization of the square.

The southern square area is supplemented by a water feature. This creates a lively recreation area in the direction of the Neckar River.
This water feature area will be shaded by large awnings during the summer months, creating an attractive meeting point in the city centre. The edge of the square at the water feature is formed by a sandstone seating wall. The reduced choice of materials contributes to a harmonious overall image of the square and sets the historic tower in a modern and timeless environment.
