In the context of the listed church by K.F. Schinkel, the playground from the 1990s was completely redesigned: The result is a playscape made of oak trunks, climbing ropes, various wooden platforms, a playhouse and a nest swing. A wide wooden walkway separates the planting bed on the street side from the sandy area. Small recreation areas for the teachers and members of the community have been created at both entrances. Individually designed play equipment creates an appropriate setting for the Schinkelkirche and offers a variety of play experiences for the children of the Protestant kindergarten.

The construction project is the first phase of the redesign of a playground from the 1990s. It is located on the south-eastern quarter of the oval site of Schinkel's Luisenkirche, on Gierkeplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The listed church and its grounds, framed by tall columned oaks, form the center of the square.

The 1st construction phase included a complete redesign of the playground. The wooden palisade edging and all the play equipment were removed and replaced with a playscape made of oak trunks, climbing ropes, various wooden platforms, a playhouse and a nest swing. Sand was used as fall protection. On the church side, the sand area was edged with oak planks. A wide wooden walkway separates the planting bed on the street side from the sand area. Small recreation areas for the teachers and parishioners have been created at both entrances. A new hornbeam hedge spatially separates the church entrance from the play area.

The existing roadside planting under the columnar oaks was retained and supplemented with flowering shrubs and ground-covering perennials. The existing rose bed by the church was also retained and supplemented with berry bushes in the area of the new seating area.
