The square sequence of Marienplatz and Schlossplatz occupies a unique, formative position in the urban layout of Ebersberg and is of particular importance as a link between the most important street and path relationships due to its historical peripheral buildings. The homogeneous city ground and the exposed visual relations re-establish the spatial unity from the town hall to the castle. The Marienplatz is made perceptible again as an independent, historically founded square space. In this way, valuable areas are freed up for existing and new uses, and requirements for multifunctional city life are fulfilled.
Traffic Stage 1
The one-way street system for car traffic will be dissolved from Dr.-Wintrich-Straße to Münchener Straße. For truck traffic, the one-way traffic in Dr.-Wintrich-Straße will be abandoned and the one-way traffic in Eichthalstraße will be opened, so that a one-way ring road from the railway station to Marienplatz
emerges. The traffic flows are shifted and reduce the traffic load in Bahnhofstraße and Marienplatz. On Marienplatz and Schlossplatz, a total of 36 units will be created in the "heart of the city", 12 units in Sieghartstraße and 16 units in Heinrich-Vogl-/ Eichthalstraße will serve the resident branch mix. The optional development of an underground car park with 28 spaces will provide further relief from the parking pressure on Marienplatz. For bicycle traffic, a two-lane bicycle path will be built from the west of Marienplatz along Bahnhofstrasse to Dr. Wintrich-Strasse in order to avoid dangerous encounters with single-lane heavy goods traffic and to keep the Altstadtpassage free of bicycle traffic in favour of pedestrian traffic. The bus stop is located at the Stadtgarten. The ensemble Marienplatz / Schlossplatz is relieved, the Stadtgarten is integrated into the central path connections.
Traffic Stage 2
The Heinrich-Vogl-Strasse is opened to heavy goods traffic, in return, there is a ban on heavy goods traffic passing through Bahnhofstrasse and Marienplatz. The designation as a traffic-calmed business area in the sense of a meeting zone at Marienplatz will slow down traffic, strengthen the connection to the Altstadtpassage and the quality of stay. The street cross-section
of Bahnhofstraße will be deconstructed, including the bicycle lane, so that 18 parking spaces can be created along Bahnhofstraße instead, which will reduce the existing parking pressure in the long term.
Design elements
A medium-format, sawn natural stone paving, largely laid at the same level in a grid pattern, conveys the unity of the square sequence. The southern large-lined gutter quotes the course of the historic roadway and, along with other 2-lined gutters, acts as a guide for traffic. An angle of steps accentuates the transition to the Altstadtpassage and directs traffic into and out of Ignaz-Perner-Straße. The Mariensäule will be exposed, moved closer to the historic town hall and given an appropriate tribute with a stone pedestal. A stone water table with a wild boar mosaic refers to the history of Ebersberg and enlivens the quality of the northern castle square. The renunciation of trees on the Marienplatz, the restrained tree planting on the Schlossplatz emphasizes the old-town inner-city character. The flat, even illumination by restrained luminaire steels traces the Marienplatz in its historical dimension also at night. Simple linear bench elements as well as free seating elements complement the catering areas and invite people to linger on the square.
