The old people's home, built in 1907 on Dom-Pedro-Platz, is run by the tradition-rich Heiliggeistspital Foundation. The ensemble had its own stables, farm buildings and gardens, which are also listed as monuments. In the course of renovation work, the two eastern wings of the main building were converted for residential use. A new residential building was constructed on the site of the now dilapidated stable buildings, which together with the old building now forms a courtyard space enclosed by buildings on all sides.
The listed ornamental garden underwent a careful adaptation to the new usage requirements, whereby the basic geometry was retained and, building on this, an overall design was developed which also integrates the new building adjoining to the east.
Existing components, such as fountain bowls, vases and enclosures, contrast with and enrich the new design elements of restrained rectilinear geometry. Play features complement a central lawn forum that gives the courtyard a common center. Sunshine-yellow play objects set colourful accents in the otherwise restrained, robust colour scheme with anthracite-coloured concrete components and surfacing.
