The park on both sides of Weißenseestraße in Munich's Obergiesing district is divided into the park section to the north of Weißenseestraße and the "Katzenbuckel" to the south. The planning was carried out in the participation process.
By incorporating the existing buildings, uses were bundled and new recreational qualities and places created. Working with the existing buildings is of particular importance.
To this end, we used boulders as a design element, which are reminiscent of the original use of the site as a gravel pit. The dense structure of boulders at the central point, the play island, is carried into the expanse of the park and gives the entire park a new and characteristic character. Entrance areas, intersections of paths and visual connections are marked by the placement of the various boulders, some of which are taller than a man. They offer a variety of possibilities for use and play.
The play island offers small and older children an attractive range of play options. Play areas that are currently scattered throughout the park will be bundled together here to make it easier for parents with children of different age groups to supervise them. The various play areas will be accessed via a network of surfacing, allowing barrier-free access to the facilities. Themed areas include water play, climbing areas for older children and teenagers, spinning, seesaws and swings. Barrier-free play equipment is included in the selection of equipment.
The development of a pathway concept took account of changing usage habits and the increased number of users. New paths were created and some existing paths were widened.
The blossom path with a row of bird cherry trees runs through the entire park as a connecting element. An emission protection planting of hornbeams was created on the border to the Mittlerer Ring.
