On the elongated former railway site, various areas are designed for intergenerational leisure activities. Loose groves of trees or green buffer zones divide the individual areas of use:
A tree-covered access area at the footbridge in the west offers space for communication, slacklining and rest during breaks. The large multi-purpose playing field to the west is the athletic focal point of the recreation facility. Team sports such as street hockey, inline hockey, soccer and basketball take place on the field. In winter, the playing field, which is framed by a boardwalk, can be iced over and used as an ice skating rink or ice hockey rink. Quieter recreational activities such as petanque, a children's play area and fitness equipment are located in the middle area. The adjoining BMX and skate facility made of in-situ concrete forms the second sporting focal point and at the same time the heart of the leisure facility.
In the eastern, narrowly tapering rest of the area, nature, peace and relaxation are placed in the foreground.
Robust seating furniture in the form of wooden-planked 'bouncing blocks' give the place an individual character. Reminiscences of the former use as a railway area were integrated into the design in the form of railway sleepers and track ballast.
A feasibility study from 2011 led to the establishment of a development plan in 2013. This provides for the construction of various areas and facilities for intergenerational leisure activities - especially in the field of sports. After extensive explosive ordnance clearance work, construction work was able to begin in 2015.
Loose groves of trees structure the individual areas of use and provide shade during periods of rest and recreation. Along the main development to the north, existing vegetation will be supplemented to form a continuous row of trees. Strips of native woody plants and shrubs take up the linear structure of the tracks and divide the area longitudinally. Succession areas and open spaces ensure biodiversity and vegetation typical of the site.
The main path connection in the west-east direction is designed as a winter-proof asphalt surface. The remaining path areas receive unbound pavements. Drainage asphalt is provided as surfacing for the multi-purpose sports field and streetball court. The construction of the skate facility was carried out in cast-in-place concrete.
The infiltration of precipitation water is, where possible, decentralized at the point of origin or via seepage-capable pavements. The areas of the skate park are drained via an inconspicuous infiltration trough.
