Concept for the reorganization of the existing cemetery and expansion with a cemetery park
Redesign
As the existing arrangement of graves was unsuitable for the use of machinery and the cemetery had been expanded over the decades without a structural and material concept, an overarching development and design concept was to be created for the entire cemetery area. In several workshops, a flexible and preferably "green" structure was developed together with the church council, in which all graves could be accessed by machines. A development horizon of 30 years was set, during which the individual burial plots were to be gradually translated into the new structure.
Extension
In 2012, the church council decided to expand the existing cemetery with a cemetery park in order to be able to offer the increasingly popular urn burial under trees without a burial plot. For this purpose, a concept with a circular path in the shape of the Luther rose, fountains, tree plantings and seating walls made of sandstone blocks was developed for the adjacent plot owned by the church to the north. The cemetery park will be implemented in summer 2016.
