The new open spaces around the ensemble of the Meisersingerhalle and hotel are located in a special place in terms of urban development. The open spaces initially serve as an entrance to the Meistersingerhalle. Furthermore, large-scale green structures are connected with each other and important traffic axes are integrated. The concert hall in the green, on the edge of the Luitpoldhain, thus functions as an efficient distributor and represents a concise and sensitive building block in the urban landscape.
development
The motorized individual traffic (MIV) is mainly handled via the existing parking lot located to the east. Consequently, a great deal of attention is paid - in keeping with the times - to the connection to local public transport (ÖPNV). The existing tram and bus lines are therefore integrated efficiently and logically into the square structure. Thus, in the northern transition to Schultheißallee, a development belt frames the open space and enables a pleasant "entrance" to Meistersingerplatz. In addition to the bus stops, the right of way for coaches, the required taxi parking spaces and barrier-free parking spaces are located here. The existing bicycle path also connects here. Sufficient bicycle parking spaces will be built at the corner points; in the square area, a higher level of consideration for the various road users will be achieved by means of a continuous square surface in the 'shared space' concept.
MEISTERSINGERPLATZ
The open spaces around the further developed building ensemble will be enclosed in a continuous square surface. The new plaza wraps around the buildings like a carpet, unifying them into a spatial fabric. The existing theme of cubic planting areas is taken up and thus mediates between old and new. Centrally, a new center is created - the new heart of the facility.
ANDIENCE
The positioning of the building allows the existing, southern service drive to continue to be used. The towing curves are designed to allow for a functional and trouble-free coexistence between the hotel use and the concert hall. The logistics side of the building follows the same design principles as the Meistersingerplatz. Thus, there is no readable rear side, much more a valuable second face.
IDENTIFICATION
"The rules of the Meistersinger were intended to offer help and to stimulate compositional activity, but they were interpreted more and more narrowly. This tendency was caricatured in 1868 by Richard Wagner in his opera 'Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg'."
In reference to the historical significance for Nuremberg and the namesakes of the Meistersingerhalle, a new pavement structure is created - especially for the Meistersingerplatz. The parquet paving in a row follows the basic shape of the Meistersangstrophe with the width of the stones.
Large green areas in the form of raised beds break out of the "rules" of the square structure and create on the one hand, as in Richard Wagner's work, an exciting contrast - on the other hand, the valuable existing trees, as a symbol of tradition and values, can be integrated.
GREEN STRUCTURE
The twelve large existing trees on the Meistersingerplatz are harmoniously staged. Symbolically, these represent the "Twelve Old Masters", which are considered the model for the Meistersinger tradition. To support this metaphor, the names of these twelve masters are engraved in the ground in an inlay. In this way, the large-crowned existing trees will shine in new splendor in a new environment.
The existing trees will be generously preserved and taken into account. Furthermore, appropriate new plantings are planned and integrated into the green structure.
