Remsgarten Lorch © 2021 Marc Leppin Franz Reschke Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH
The competition focuses on the high-quality redesign of Oriaplatz (formerly Schillerplatz) and Remsgarten as well as making the Götzenbach stream and the Rems river a tangible experience for residents and visitors to the town of Lorch. The measure is part of the Remstal 2019 Intercommunal Garden Show.
The Oriaplatz and Remsgarten areas and, in the long term, the riverside meadow south of the Rems are seen as 'stages' for communal city life in addition to the public buildings (community center and town hall) and their identity is designed in a differentiated way. A uniform pavement connects the spatially and atmospherically different places. The open design of the squares and their differentiated edges reinforce the principle of urban stages. The topographical orientation and the wide-open view of the scenic landscape of the Rems river are special qualities of the new riverside open space. The reciprocal relationship between the city, Rems and Götzenbach is strengthened by the furniture. Large, robust wooden benches offer seating and lounging options with a view of the city and the water.
