OLD CEMETERY, NEW ENTRIES
A tree-lined park, consecrated as a cemetery in 1828, since 1937 a paradise well hidden behind Harburg's house facades, this is all the old Harburg cemetery. Two new entrances are to make its inner world visible again and open it up in a new way. As a former viewing plateau, the site is located on the Krumholzberg and thus on its own level above the city. For this reason, the topography represents an important design issue.
NOTATION LINES AND HEAVENLINES
The task of mediating between different levels is taken on by "notation lines" on Bremer Strasse. Flat concrete steps in grey restructure the space and turn coincidence into musicality. Historic grave monuments like existing trees become notes on the staves, making the ascent into another sphere pleasantly rhythmic.
At Bunatwiete, a staircase made of Corten steel connects the city level with the park. Stepping down the "Jacob's Ladder", a view towards the east is offered.
