GARDEN SHOW AS INSTRUMENT
A garden show is a celebration of flowers, a showcase of the green industry. Above all, however, it is an instrument of urban development and city marketing, designed in the long term to carry not only open spaces but also structural and infrastructural improvements far into the future.
NEW STAGE IN FRONT OF OLD CULTIVES
So the 2009 Federal Horticultural Show in Schwerin is also an instrument of urban redevelopment, the centrepiece of which, called "The Garden of the 21st Century", transformed an inner-city wasteland into a "floating meadow". This generous urban stage, conceived as walkable water (e.g. with broken glass as a covering), rearranges the historical situation and at the same time rebalances the field of tension between the city backdrop and the castle lake, the castle and the baroque garden. This garden as a stage, new, self-confident and yet deeply baroque, is the "missing link" of Schwerin's city centre and a new visual experience.
