The design divides the market square into an upper and a lower market, which results from the existing gradient situation. A generous staircase with recessed water stairs forms the transition between a somewhat smaller area with a café situation and individual seating in the upper area and a larger square in the lower area. The paving of the lower square features 32 floor-level, traversable jets of a water feature aligned with the building façade. The water fountains are fed with lake water from the nearby Unteruckersee. They enliven the square and are particularly popular with children as they invite them to play. Both parts of the square can be used for the weekly market, festivals and events. A small public garden is being created in the area near the building, providing a quiet space.
Towards the main road, the square is bordered by a triple row of lime trees under which benches invite you to linger in the shade and on which further play elements can be found. The row of trees is accompanied by a rippling ribbon of water, which enhances the quality of stay in this area. On the west side of the square, the imposing Marienkirche church is an eye-catcher.
At night, a cleverly conceived lighting concept ensures a radiant Marktberg.
