Waldowplatz concept study Concept study to provide impetus for the development of an attractive, urban and green district

The urban development opportunities around Waldowplatz in Oberschöneweide, Berlin Treptow-Köpenick are to be examined against the background of the growing need for space for social and green infrastructure as well as redensification for housing.



The state of Berlin has planned corresponding measures for the expansion of social infrastructure (activation of the Kepler school as a four-form elementary school, new construction of the gymnasium as a 3-field gymnasium). In this context, suitable locations for the youth recreation facility (JFE) previously housed in the Kepler school and a new day care center were examined. The upgrading of the public open and green spaces at Waldowplatz was also included. The planning was based on coordinated usage programs.



Due to the urban city structure and the different usage requirements, multiple use of buildings and areas was included in the conceptual considerations (e.g. combination of facilities, use of roof areas, multiple use of open spaces, integration of rainwater retention areas in open spaces).



The study is intended to provide impetus for the development of an attractive, urban and green quarter.
