The open space design aims to give the heterogeneous architecture a calm foundation. A uniform carpet of large sections of the existing large stone paving is to form this basis in a sawn form. The Gebauer Goldband, which is "embedded" in the paving and refers to the different directions, uses and historical aspects, serves as a further connecting element between the various courtyards.
In addition, new recreational areas will be created on the Spree side with terraces with seating steps facing the Spree, thus increasing the quality of the space. Brass-colored nails in the ground mark the public thoroughfare agreed with the city of Berlin. The public connection along the Spree, which abuts the Gebauer Höfe from the north, is to be closed in the future once the new construction and conversion work in the Gebauer Höfe is complete. Courtyard 1 and Courtyard 2, in particular, will remain mainly in their function as commercial courtyards with all possibilities for stationary and moving traffic. The addition of a uniform pavement with an appealing surface and the selective addition of furnishings, planting and a seating step system prior to the conversion of The Briq will also greatly enhance the very traffic-heavy Courtyard 2.
