The courtyard of the Wigberti Monastery serves as a recreation space for the employees of the city administration as well as for the parishioners who use the surrounding buildings. At the same time, it is a backdrop for those whose windows face the courtyard. The open gate further draws in visitors, Erfurt citizens and tourists.
The design for the courtyard picks up on the existing central path. Diagonally offset strips of cut boxwood and lavender divide the space on both sides of the path. Within the planting strips, artfully mounted wooden blocks are integrated as benches, offering a shady stay in the expanse of the courtyard on hot summer days. The calm water of the lenticular fountain reflects the historical surroundings.
