In the overall Bahnbogen Süd project, the northern prelude to the Sonnenbrunnen has been completed as the first construction phase. The space has been visibly opened up and developed as a new town square and attractive entrance area to the South German Railway Museum. The square opens up to Ludwigsburger and Leonhardstraße as a quiet carpet of a water-bound surface.
Inlays are freely inserted into the pavement surface and stand out from the homogeneous pavement carpet with their edged lines. A set of steps leads to the lower level of the square and to the central inlay with the "sun fountain". The new sun fountain is inserted as a water disk flush with the pavement and presents itself as a calm sky mirror or moving water surface.
A loose tree grove of birches covers a meadow inlay and is a place of retreat and shade on the square surface. Smaller, freely distributed play points offer a varied interplay of places of movement and experience on the square surface. The new barrier-free access will be created from Leonhardstraße to the entrance of the railway museum. In reminiscence of the history of the site, an old shunting track will be preserved in the square area and a locomotive will be positioned as a symbol.
