In the course of the renovation of the school building of the Lemberg School, the outdoor facilities of the school grounds were examined and overplanned.
In a first step, the condition of the outdoor facilities was analyzed and ideas and wishes for redesign were developed by the students and teachers in class, which they presented on 02.06.2017 in a work show.
On this basis, a design concept was developed, which was discussed and refined with the teaching and parent representatives in two meetings.
The redesign of the outdoor facilities take into account the structural changes to the building, with creation of a new access for early care and relocation of the escape exits. In the connection area of Hauffstraße, a small square situation with a seating element is created, which defines the access area of the school. From here a new barrier-free access path leads to the new entrance of the early care. The removal of the shrub hedge along the building now opens up a clear view to the entrance area of the school and creates orientation. The existing parking area is reorganized and the driveway is moved closer to the building, creating 14 parking spaces of turf joint pavers in two parking pockets, divided by trimmed hedges. The drive aisles and schoolyard areas will be asphalt. In the access area, a new garbage house with a green roof will accommodate the previously open garbage storage area and, with its power and water connections, offer flexible options for the caretaker and for school events. New bicycle parking spaces will be created in the area of the garbage house. It was determined in the planning process that the number of bicycle parking spaces required by the LBO should not be built, since children are not allowed to come to school by bicycle alone until they are in 4th grade. However, the space should be provided for expansion as demand increases.
Access to the upper schoolyard areas of the Lemberg School leads past the parking lot.
The division into two school levels with a height difference of approximately 3.60 m will be retained. In the area of the entrance, the existing chestnut tree, as well as the existing concrete wall of the play slope will be retained. The courtyard will be equipped with sunshades and bench combinations, which will serve for core time care or as outdoor classrooms.
The two levels of the schoolyard will be linked by a play slope, in which the existing play slope will be integrated and developed as a 'climbing forest in the rock pear grove'. The connecting staircase is reduced in width to 4 metres and leads in a direct line across the upper schoolyard to the connection to the Christiane Herzog Realschule and refectory. From the parking lot, the new maintenance ramp leads to the upper schoolyard level, which will now be accessible for maintenance.
With its asphalt surface, the upper schoolyard offers the desired option as an open multifunctional play area. Downstream, the climbing forest, rope swing and slope slide provide challenging exercise and play areas for elementary students.
The slope situations are intercepted by seating elements made of concrete and sandstone and at the same time offer different recreational opportunities for the children to sit and observe.
In the access area between the Lemberg School and the Music Pavilion, the barrier-free new access is integrated with the necessary backfill. The pavement areas of the access will be renewed and reduced in size in the area of the entrance. The existing ornamental cherry trees will be retained. The stairway to the sports hall is newly built and receives in the transition to the existing path a small widening of the square from which the barrier-free ramp leads to the new side entrance of the Lemberg school.
Between the staircase and the music pavilion 6 new parking spaces are built in the area of the existing plane tree.
The new emergency exit in the area to the school lawn is integrated by a staircase and a small terrace in the area from where the escape and assembly points can be reached.
In the course of the redesign, in coordination with the Department of City Lighting, the renovation and addition of the outdoor lighting, as well as the drainage lines of the outdoor areas and the basic lines of the roof drainage are provided.
