Sports and outdoor facilities of the Bundeswehr Air Wing, Berlin-Grünau Construction of a new sports hall with beach volleyball court in Walchenseestraße

In Berlin-Grünau, a sports hall with an adjoining beach volleyball court was built on a wooded site for the German Armed Forces Air Wing. The surrounding area is characterized by residential buildings, a school, the Grünau Peace Church and an adjacent park.



The garden areas created by the L-shaped positioning of the new sports hall surround the building to the north, east and south. To the west is the attractively designed entrance area to the sports hall with access to the beach volleyball court.



Between the new sports hall and the existing access road, a slightly lowered beach volleyball court measuring approx. 300 m² was created. The court is framed by a surrounding access path with recreational areas and screened from the access road by planted areas.



A path around the building connects various seating and planting areas. It provides access to the attractively designed open space where users can spend their leisure time. There are also landscaped infiltration basins.



The site will be ecologically enhanced and framed in the area of the site enclosure by planting underneath the existing trees and shrubs. Various shrubs, e.g. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway maple (Acer platanoides), complement the existing trees and serve as replacement planting for the new building.



The paved surfaces of the entrance area of the new sports hall and the surrounding path were made with light gray concrete stone slabs. The newly designed car parking spaces in the area of the sports hall were made of grass paving stones or grass honeycombs.



The drainage of the path and square areas was carried out in the adjacent green and planted areas. The roof water is drained into infiltration troughs or a trench drain on site.
