The new Clouth-Quartier is being built in the middle of Cologne-Nippes with a mixture of residential and commercial. The centerpiece is the listed Hall 17 of the former Rheinische Gummiwarenfabrik, which was closed down in 2005.
Access to 47 apartments and three commercial units is provided via an open thoroughfare. Here, recreation areas with seating are arranged along gleditsia plantings and perennial beds. The flooring picks up the preserved facades of the former industrial buildings via clinker bricks. Two open passages connect the hall with the surrounding streets.
