KSP Architekten, commissioned by Bauwens Projektentwicklung, Cologne, have planned the ensemble "Gleis Park", apartments with a view of the Park am Gleisdreieck, through the partial conversion of the little-used multi-storey car park on Schöneberger Ufer, Berlin (design Renzo Piano) and in collaboration with the landscape architects LILL SPARLA, Cologne.
The ground floor apartments will receive small terrace gardens with shrub and tree plantings, enclosed by low hedges. The former rampart to the Park am Gleisdreieck will be restored after temporary partial demolition, protects the ensemble from the public and will be developed into an exciting playscape. The curved walls take up the line of the balconies. A multitude of requirements for everyday suitability and from the building regulations are accommodated in a very confined space. A subway tunnel has to be built over in the outdoor facilities. In four inner courtyards, small, greened lounge areas are created with large-scale façade greening, which also serves as sound insulation.
