The project resulted from a won, limited competition from 2014. The planning for the first construction phase with approx. 2ha was commissioned in May 2015. The project was handed over to the client and thus to the public in May 2018.
The planning task for this project was the conversion of a large paved road used as a parking lot into an access and recreation area, primarily for pedestrians and cyclists against the background of the historical significance of this urban space as the former Kurfürstenalle and thus the first connection from Charlottenburg Palace to the Tiergarten.
The conversion of a conventional drainage of the paved areas into the network to the greatest possible infiltration of the rainwater on the surface and beyond this the consistent preservation of the tree population were not only the goal, but also the realized result and planning and communicative challenge of this project.
