The Ostpark is located in the Nordend Ost district in a peripheral area intensively shaped by infrastructure. The north and east sides of the park are bordered by federal roads and motorways, while the south side is bounded by the goods compartment of Frankfurt's main railway station. With the residential area Bornheim/Ostend a settlement borders on de park, which ensures by the underground connection also the availability of the park for a further catchment area.

The east park represents a green oasis in the urban coined context of the further landscape and serves thus the local recreation of the Frankfurt population. The East Park is further characterized by the lake "Riedgraben" as well as various sports facilities, such as an ash and lawn.
In the basic renewal of the park, which was mainly founded in the late 1950s, the main focus was on modernization in harmony with the protection of historical monuments, so that the existing building fabric and the many natural monuments could be carefully integrated into the new design. The usability of the park as a recreational area is emphasized: The withdrawal of the overgrown edge plantings opens up the park and increases the feeling of safety. The new circular path system is primarily aimed at athletes, who can use the new surface for jogging. Along the sports facility, the "fin track" made of wood chips provides a running experience that is easy on the knees. Two play areas, one of which is for toddlers, blend into the natural setting with their climbing and swinging equipment developed specifically for the project.
Further focal areas are the new barbecue area on the main meadow, the renovation of the bastion, a recreation area directly on the lake, the upgrading of the cetto, a historic bathing area on the lake as well as the chestnut square, the southern central square with access to the new emergency overnight accommodation as well as a kiosk.
In addition to the upgrading of the park by improving the routing as well as the expansion of the recreational value, a further focus was on the sustainable handling of the existing vegetation as well as the resident Lesser White-fronted Geese, which were provided with their own shelters. With the establishment of vegetation mats in the shore zone of the lake, a new near-natural habitat for waterfowl was created.
